Teeth-friendly Fruits & Vegetables No. 7: Oranges
We start worrying about our children’s teeth from the moment they start growing them. They make sure of that, don’t they? Babies work so hard growing those teeth that we want to take care of them from the beginning, even though they are going to fall out in a few short years. Did you know that this time is crucial even for permanent teeth? Before the baby teeth are ever gone, permanent teeth are forming. Those are the ones that are going to require trips to the orthodontist, Invisalign, retainers, fillings, and more. Their care is extremely important and begins before you can even see them.
A healthy diet
Fruit and vegetable are a vital part of a healthy diet. Of course, some are better for your teeth and others, and some may come as a surprise. For example, did you know that oranges are good for your teeth? Despite their acidic nature that can harm tooth enamel in large amounts, they should be eaten regularly in an effort to reap the following benefits for your teeth:
• Strengthen connective tissue that holds the teeth in place.
• Reduce inflammation, possibly slowing the rate of progression of gingivitis.
• Multiple whole body benefits associated with vitamin C content.
All of these benefits can help ensure your trips to the orthodontist are as productive as possible, that any appliance, whether traditional braces, Invisalign, or a simple retainer, work to the best of their ability, and that your teeth stay healthy for years to come.
