Orthodontic Fact #11
Orthodontic Fact #11 “In 1000 BC, the ancient Greeks fashioned a catgut or metal strips with goat or sheep intestines to correct teeth deformities. Be thankful that you are living in the 20th century.”
When we look at the history of the world, 3000 years doesn’t really come across as that long ago; however, the methods for providing proper orthodontic care have greatly changed. While the history of orthodontics shows us that Ancient Greeks used the innards of animals to correct problems with teeth, modern dentistry has revised and revamped methods for better health overall.
Throughout the history of orthodontics, professionals in the field have sought to create better models of braces. Not only have they sought braces for kids and teens that are structurally sound and made of safe materials, but they also have put together collections that are aesthetically pleasing. Gone are the days when braces for kids and teens involved goat and sheep intestines strung across the teeth. When individuals visit an orthodontist, they will see the extensive array of color options available for their braces.
Generally, patients are going to visit their orthodontist on a regular basis to have their braces changed. Usually, the appointments are every six weeks or so. Youngsters often like to pick out different colors based upon the seasons or maybe even the sports team they are playing on. In modern braces, procuring dental braces has to offer is the healthy step to take for those who struggle with certain oral problems, but it’s also fun.
While metal and wire braces are still popular, other options are coming into fruition. Dental braces can provide include Invisalign or braces that go behind the teeth. The latter are self explanatory; the former are invisible braces. No one is able to see them. People also have different options for retainers. However, individuals need to speak with their dentist to find out which types of braces and retainers they are candidates for because eligibility can vary by condition.
