Invisalign FAQ
The top 7 frequently asked questions about Invisalign
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign consists of specialty, clear dental aligners created using computer imaging technology. The aligners are custom made to fit over teeth and to slowly move teeth through changing aligners every two weeks into their correct final positions. As patients advance in treatment they will be responsible for changing out their aligners once every two weeks and visiting regular appointments until they have reached the end of their aligners and the orthodontist is satisfied with the progress made.
How are Invisalign different from braces?
Invisalign is an orthodontic appliance that is completely removable and is clear as well as form fitting to teeth. This means that patients who use Invisalign will be able to remove their orthodontic appliance when they eat and can have confidence wearing their appliance as they can be nearly impossible to see when in place. Patients receiving Invisalign treatment can also enjoy an unrestricted diet as they can remove all appliances to eat and drink without having to worry about damaging appliances.
Do they hurt or feel uncomfortable?
Invisalign aligners are created using computer technology so unlike traditional braces there are no brackets or extra wires that might potentially cause discomfort to your mouth, lips and gums. There is a chance that you may feel pressure when you change out your aligners every two weeks but it is far more gradual pressure than through orthodontic adjustment on appliances like braces. Because adjustments are constantly being made, it also leads to less orthodontic visits which can be more convenient for someone with a busy schedule.
What are the aligners made out of?
Each Invisalign aligner is made using high quality thermoplastic material which is of a medical grade. This material was developed specifically for Invisalign and it is designed to fit perfectly over teeth and retain its shape to guide teeth into place with each new adjuster.
How does the technology and virtual imaging help?
The software and virtual imaging that is used by Invisalign will help you and your orthodontist to map your progress from your first appointment scan. The imaging and software works to create a 3D model that can be adjusted and manipulated to model and simulate your progress through treatment. This means that you can get a real onscreen preview of how your smile will look after treatment. The imaging technology has increased the accuracy of treatment as well meaning that you can shorten the overall length of treatment time.
How can I start receiving treatment?
Make an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Gluck, your local board certified orthodontist who has extensive training and cases with Invisalign that has propelled him to a Top 1% Diamond Plus Invisalign Provider status.
Note: Some dentists offer Invisalign but they do not have the specialist knowledge in orthodontics. Our goal should be to have everyone choosing to have orthodontic treatment see a licensed orthodontic specialist – preferably with a board certified orthodontist like Dr. Gluck.
