Eat Better – Feel Better
Looking your best and feeling good starts with what you put in your body. While undergoing treatment with your orthodontist, it can be challenging to find healthy foods that won’t interfere with your braces. To treat your body and your teeth well, the key is to think soft. Here are some healthy food choices that will keep you feeling great during treatment.
Dairy foods are always a good choice. Look for foods that are high in protein like:
- Greek yogurt
- Cottage cheese
- Scrambled eggs
Fruits and vegetables are always on the menu when eating healthy. Again, think soft while being treated by your orthodontist. Some great ideas include:
- Watermelon
- Oranges
- Bananas
- Kiwi
- Steamed vegetables
- Hummus

Meats can be tough when looking for soft foods during orthodontic treatment. Eating fish is always a great idea. Some foods to look for include:
- Turkey meatballs
- Tuna
- Lunch meats like turkey and Salmon
Carbohydrates are a bit easier to eat since they are usually soft to begin with. Some healthy options include:
- Whole grain pasta like spaghetti
- Brown rice
- Whole wheat tortillas
Unfortunately, while you are wearing braces, there are some foods that must be avoided. These include:
- Hard fruits and vegetables (they can be eaten if cut up and chewed with your back teeth)
- Corn on the cob
- Bagels
- Popcorn
- Nuts
- Hard and sticky candies
- Chips
- Pretzels
The goal of orthodontic treatment is to get you looking and feeling your best. You need to treat your body well. This starts with a healthy diet. Talk to Drs. Joel and Jonathon Gluck about more healthy options during treatment. Remember, you are what you eat!
